Sustaining the rule of law through public legal education must become an essential function of American life, yet try to name just one American institution that is teaching the rule of law to the people ... what it is and what it requires in the way of due process protections.
Pnclhppy.wmf (21192 bytes)     The Rule of Law is sometimes capitalized thusly to emphasize its importance, yet you won't find one in a hundred outside the closed society of lawyers that can begin to tell you what it is and, sadly, many lawyers and even a few presiding judges lack any sufficient understanding of the rule of law and due process.
It's as if nobody cares what rock the Statue of Liberty is standing on, i.e., the foundation of laws established according to fixed principles approved by the common man ... dare we say "self-evident truths"? The people praise the lamp she lifts in New York's harbor but ignore the book under her arm. Instead of making things better through law and order, using the common-sense tools available for us all to use, they damn and condemn the system ... because they do not know. Some intentionally harm others ... because they do not know.
Join us in the task of educating people in the non-partisan rules of court that make liberty secure, teaching everyone the fundamental principles by which "good" can always be made to prevail and conflicts can be resolved peacefully.
The rule of law and due process are powerful principles not well enough understood in these times. Some of us must care enough to insure that the children of this generation learn what it is that sustains their liberties. We can utilize these justice-establishing principles to secure for ourselves and for our posterity the blessings of human liberty and a stronger, more stable peace. You are needed in this work. Your written thoughts are invited.
Please write explaining the rule of law and the principles of due process in your own words. Poems will not be rejected. Essays of any length will be considered. If you do caricatures or draw cartoons send them in to teach the rule of law and/or the principles of due process. Please get started at once. No idea is too silly or too outrageous. Together we can publish the truths by which future generations can survive the present threat of ethical disintegration. We can unite future generations in the most important cause of all.
Time is of the essence, however. Do your part. Start today. Encourage others to get involved. Use your own ideas to explain the principles of due process and the rule of law from your own unique point of view. Speak to "everyone". Write or draw. Make it clear. Be humorous. Be friendly. Give hope. Email your contributions. Our email address is found at the bottom of every page of Jurisdictionary®.
Urge people to understand that guns alone never free people. They oftener enslave.
Words are the things that make liberty possible.
